Orthodontic FAQ

1. Are braces just for children and teenagers?

Absolutely not, it’s never too late to benefit from orthodontic treatment and we are treating more and more adults. You are never too old for the smile you deserve. Orthodontics is suitable for anyone of any age. We have patients ranging from fourteen through to patients in their seventies.

2. Does it hurt?

Getting braces applied to your teeth does not hurt and no pain medicine or injections are required. Most patients find that their teeth may ache a little for the first few days after the braces are applied but this is perfectly normal and is evidence that your teeth are responding to the braces.

3. What’s the difference between a dentist and orthodontist?

An orthodontist is a dentist who has taken several years of extra training beyond the basic dental degree. In Pure Orthodontics case Dr Reinach is a specialist Orthodontist which means that she undertook a further four years of training as well as ongoing, regular training courses.

4. I had braces before and I wore my retainer for a while when I was younger, but then I stopped wearing it and my teeth shifted years later.  Is this common?

Yes, it is more common than you think. A large percentage of the patients we see are repeat treatment (this includes two members of our staff!) Teeth are actually more dynamic than you’d expect; however Pure Orthodontics offers bonded retainers as part of the treatment cost which are small pieces of wire that sit on the back on your teeth to prevent teeth moving in the future. Whilst these are optional we would strongly recommend them.

5. How much do braces cost?

This cost varies depending on the treatment option taken but typical treatment costs begin at £1500 and rise to £8000. We offer in house finance where you pay a deposit followed by interest free monthly instalments. Alternatively Braemar Finance can lend you the full treatment amount and you can pay them back interest free each month without even paying a deposit.

6. How long will my treatment take?

This can vary from a few months to 2 years, depending on the severity of the case.

7. Can I visit the practice for a consultation?

Absolutely, in fact we strongly recommend it. We offer a FREE consultation appointment during which you will have a short examination with our specialist Orthodontist who will advise the best and most effective treatment for you. After this our Treatment Co-ordinator will then explain all types of braces in detail and discuss our interest free payment plans.

Still have a question that hasn’t already been answered?

That’s perfectly normal, deciding to undergo orthodontic treatment is a big decision and as such shouldn’t be rushed into. Pure Orthodontics offer a FREE one hour consultation which gives our orthodontist chance to look at your particular case and advice you on the best treatment options and it provides patients with the perfect opportunity to ask as many questions as you wish!
